Storage Servers
Direct-Attached Storage (DAS)
DAS refers to storage that is attached directly to a server or workstation with no storage network connecting them. An HBA (Host Bus Adapter) is required to connect a DAS system through a protocol like Serial-Attached SCSI (SAS) or Parallel SCSI to your server or workstation.

Network-Attached Storage (NAS)
NAS is the name given to dedicated data storage technology that can be connected directly to a computer network to provide centralized data access and storage to heterogeneous network clients. NAS differs from the traditional file serving and Direct Attached Storage in that the operating system and other software on the NAS unit provide only the functionality of data storage, data access and the management of these functionalities. Furthermore, the NAS unit does not limit clients to only one file transfer protocol. NAS systems usually contain one or more hard disks, often arranged into logical, redundant storage containers or RAIDs (redundant arrays of independant disks), as do traditional file servers. NAS removes the responsibility of file serving from other servers on the network and can be deployed via commercial embedded units or via standard computers running NAS software. Read more about NAS.

Storage Area Network (SAN)
SAN refers to a storage system which maps to a server through a SCSI protocol like iSCSI. SAN differs from NAS because it appears as a locally attached device to the operating system on your server. Multiple paths between servers and storage enable a constant connection, even if some lines go down. The switched architecture of SANs enable IT managers to expand storage capacity without shutting down applications.

Just A Bunch of Disks (JBOD)
JBOD, sometimes referred to as concatenation or spanning of disks, serves up each disk of storage as a stand-alone disk. The disks are combined into a single large disk and provides no data redundancy. Our JBOD units can be chained together or mirrored and provide an ideal solution where the highest storage capacity is necessary.
