Interconnect Fabrics

InfiniBand | Myrinet | Quadrics Interconnect Fabrics

At the heart of all HPC platforms are appropriate and stable interconnect (switch) fabrics. We have custom integrated cluster platforms utilizing most of the leading technologies and brands that have emerged within the past decade.

Across the full spectrum of performance (measured in sustained data throughputs, lower latencies, and CPU utilization levels) additional fabric considerations include: Node density, future scalability, and frankly budgets.

Is a new cluster being purpose built to primarily run specific codes 24x7x365, or will it be a broader research platform serving many Users? Are the primary applications/codes being run tightly or loosely coupled?

There are several fine interconnect fabric technologies in the HPC market. We can help you determine which one is best suited for "your specific" requirements.

InfiniBand

InfiniBand is a point-to-point high-speed switch fabric interconnect architecture that features built-in quality of service, fault tolerance and scalability. The InfiniBand Architecture (IBA) Specification defines the interconnect (fabric) technology for interconnecting processor nodes and I/O nodes to form a system area network that is independent of the host operating system and processor platform. See the InfiniBand Trade Association for more details on the InfiniBand specification and IBTA events.

Mellanox Technologies Mellanox Technologies

Mellanox Technologies is a leading supplier of semiconductor-based, high-performance, InfiniBand and Ethernet connectivity products that facilitate data transmission between servers, communications infrastructure equipment and storage systems. The company’s products are an integral part of a total solution focused on computing, storage and communication applications used in enterprise data centers, high-performance computing and embedded systems.

QLogic QLogic

QLogic InfiniBand (formerly Pathscale) host channel adapters (HCAs) are configured in some of our fastest HPC cluster integration engagements to date -- at DOD sites running very demanding shock physics and computational dynamics simulation codes. QLogic currently claims the industry's highest message passing rates. Combined with the lowest MPI latency and the highest effective bandwidth, this enables MPI and TCP applications to scale to thousands of nodes with unprecedented price-performance.

Voltaire Voltaire

Voltaire provides grid backbone solutions for networked computing in the next generation data center. The company focuses on improving data center efficiency by enabling grid computing deployments on commodity server and storage offerings. Voltaire's fully integrated family of switching hardware and network virtualization software delivers the highest performance, intelligent backbone for grid computing architectures. Leveraging the InfiniBand standard, Voltaire solutions offer improved performance, utilization and scalability across compute clusters, storage and IP networks.

Myrinet

Myricom Myricom

Myricom pioneered HPC interconnect technolgies with it's Myrinet-2000 technologies in the mid 1990s. Their newest Myri-10G protocol-offload solutions provide convergence between compute cluster and other enterprise assets running on Ethernet fabrics with near line-rate TCP/IP and UDP/IP throughputs (9.7-9.9 Gbits/s). Mryricoms Myri-10G NICs can be used with the MX (Myrinet Express) software for kernel-bypass operation for low latency and low host-CPU load over either Ethernet or Myrinet networks.

Quadrics

Quadrics Quadrics

Quadrics is a leading supplier and developer of high performance networking products and resource management software. Quadrics applied advanced technology to build clusters that achieve supercomputing levels of performance and reliability. QsNet products are based on internally developed ASICs, firmware and software technologies, and deliver high performance, scalability and flexibility. With a proven record of working in partnership, Quadrics is helping to solve the world's most complex computational challenges.
